What’s the difference between AMG and 4MATIC?
AMG is the name of the performance arm of Mercedes-Benz, and 4Matic is the name given to the Mercedes-Benz all-wheel-drive system. Developed with Austrian manufacturer Steyr-Daimler-Puch, the 4Matic setup made its debut on the 1987 Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Selecting a Mercedes-Benz with 4MATIC® presents distinct advantages, particularly for drivers who encounter variable weather or desire enhanced vehicle stability. The system shines in rainy, snowy, or uneven road conditions, offering superior grip and control. The Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC® all-wheel drive system also focuses on being more adaptable, but it goes much further than the xDrive to do so. Using the cutting edge safety and driver assistance systems Mercedes-Benz has developed, the 4MATIC® is able to not just sense changing conditions, but react to them instantly. Our 4MATIC® All-Wheel-Drive technology goes above and beyond most manufacturers to deliver a truly redesigned driving experience. Experience enhanced performance, safety, and comfort built into the very fabric of your vehicle. MATIC® driving means turning precisely on ice and snow. The usual 4WD drawbacks are present for any Mercedes that can have 4Matic as an option, instead of front- or rear-wheel drive only – namely, 4Matic cars are more expensive than their 2-wheel-drive equivalents, they are heavier so they don’t handle quite as nimbly, and they will typically use more fuel if driven .
Is AMG the same as 4MATIC?
While standard Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC® provides all-weather capability, AMG’s 4MATIC®+ is a performance-oriented system capable of transferring nearly 100% of power to the rear wheels when needed. This enhances cornering and acceleration under demanding conditions. What Are the Main Benefits of Owning an AMG Model?
