What is the nickname for the M113?
The M113 has received a variety of nicknames over the years. The South Vietnamese Army (ARVN) called it the green dragon. United States troops tended to refer to the M113 simply as a 113 (spoken as one-one-three), or a track. M113 is NOT a tank – it is a battle field taxi. The design brief was for a vehicle to deliver troops to the forward edge of the battle area, in a vehicle proof against small arms fire and shrapnel. M113 is NOT a tank – but it is more bullet proof than your green shirt.
