What is a BMW model code?
BMW models and chassis are designated with an internal code to tell them apart. These are known as the BMW E-codes, F-codes, and G-codes. Every BMW production model, and even some prototypes and concept cars, are given a type designation. Model names with ‘i,’ ‘d’ and ‘e’ The letter ‘i’ at the end of a BMW model – for example, 430i – means it’s a petrol car. This is a nod to older BMWs which marked out models that used fuel injection.For BMW these are known as chassis codes and engine codes. These code systems help keep planning and development organized and avoids confusion. BMW engines are known by their M, N, B, S, P, or W codes while BMW chassis and bodies are known by their E, F, G, or U codes.
Is my BMW F32 or F33?
The first generation of the 4 Series consists of the following body styles: 2-door coupé (F32 model code) 2-door convertible (F33 model code) 4-door liftback (F36 model code; marketed as the 4 Series Gran Coupé) Gran Turismo (F34) The 5-door fastback body style has a designation of F34 and is marketed as the 3 Series Gran Turismo, with styling similar to the 5 Series Gran Turismo.
