This means many A220s are underutilized or used in ways that don’t fully exploit their design advantages.
Is the A220 rare?
While the A220 program has soared since Airbus took over Bombardier’s CSeries in 2018, the smallest variant—the A220-100—remains a rarity. Just four airlines currently fly it: Delta, SWISS, ITA Airways, and Bulgaria Air. The Embraer E195-E2, introduced in 2018 with Widerøe as its launch customer, is the closest competitor to the A220-100. By late 2024, Embraer had delivered 155 E195-E2 aircraft and secured 306 orders. In comparison, Airbus had received 98 orders for the A220-100.
